Kevin Cyr - Berry II (Oil on Panel, 20" x 35", 2010)

Opening this Saturday in Toronto at Show & Tell Gallery is a group exhibition titled Atrophic Existence which features an exciting line-up of emerging contemporary artists from across North America whose work harmoniously intertwines around the subject of urban decay. In an attempt to explore this theme, all artists of Atrophic Existence delve into concepts and imagery that invite us to question and contemplate human (dis)connection with nature.

The exhibition highlights art from artists Kevin Cyr (NYC), Joshua Barndt (Toronto), Mike Shankman (San Fransisco), Jeff Gillette (LA), and Alex Lukas (Philadelphia).

Alex Lukas - Untitled (Ink, Acrylic and Silk Screen on 2 Book Pages, 9.5" x 14", 2010)

10% of sales from this show will be donated on behalf of the gallery to Evergreen. Evergreen is a not-for-profit organization that makes cities more livable. By deepening the connection between people and nature, and empowering Canadians to take a hands-on approach to their urban environments, Evergreen is improving the health of our cities - now and for the future. For more information please visit: www.evergreen.ca

Mike Shankman - Assemblage (Oil On Canvas, 48" x 72", 2010)

In addition, the show features an installation by Joshua Barndt in which the artist has taken his entire material worth (ie. everything he owns) and constructed an epic large scale mountain reminiscent of Machu Pichu. Below are a couple videos Joshua put together, the first describing the installation, the second showing a preview of the piece.

If you are in Toronto make sure to stop by Show & Tell Gallery to see this show in person. The opening is this Saturday December 11th from 7 - 11pm and the exhibition runs until January 10, 2011.
