Swoon will be in attendance at the opening night of her first solo exhibition in Australia on February 16, 2011. In this exhibition at Metro Gallery near Melbourne, the artist will present works similar to those she has been wheat-pasting up on the streets of New York City for over 10 years.

Using traditional printmaking techniques, Swoon (whose real name is Caledonia “Callie” Dance Curry) ensures that each printed piece she creates is inherently unique by physically cutting details into the works. This process of subtraction allows the pieces to take on lives of their own once situated in their urban settings. At once traditional and modern, her method of incorporating age old methods into contemporary graffiti makes her work highly compelling, fresh, gorgeous and original.

Swoon's works have been included in many important exhibitions at institutions including P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, Deitch Projects, MoMA, and the Brooklyn Museum. The Ministry highly recommends our friends in Melbourne check this show out.
