In her first solo exhibition with P.P.O.W., Sarah Frost will present "Arsenal", a comprehensive arsenal of guns made of paper. Inspired by a community of boys who self-publish instructional YouTube videos for making paper guns, Frost will assemble a huge variety of representative weaponry to reflect these boys' intensity and craftsmanship. These guns are not only realistic interpretations of the real objects but many of them also shoot paper darts, often without needing to blow through the object, and have many moving parts including spinning chambers, folding stocks, and pump action barrels.
Any show about weaponry is bound to be political, especially when the inspiration for the exhibition is a series of toy guns made by boys and young men, and we'll be watching the critical response to this show.
Sarah Frost, who is based in St. Louis, holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in sculpture and painting and her work has been shown throughout the Midwest. This exhibition at P.P.O.W. will be her first solo effort in New York City.
